Arlene Ami - Director, Writer, Producer, Host
Arlene Ami is actively involved in the film and television industry as a director, writer, producer, and host.
She wrote, directed and produced the one-hour documentary Say I Do, which follows the stories of Filipino women who came to Canada as part of the global mail-order bride phenomenon. It was broadcast nationally in prime time on CTV, Vision TV, and screened at Hot Docs 2003. Say I Do has been invited to festivals across Canada and internationally.
Most recently, Arlene directed Secrets, a documentary about teen sexuality. It has been broadcast nationally in prime time on CBC’s “The Passionate Eye.”
She also co-produced Army of One, a documentary about three young recruits who joined the U.S. military after 9/11. It premiered at IDFA in 2003 and went on to win the Best Canadian Feature Documentary award at Hot Docs 2004.
Army of One has been broadcast in Canada on CBC’s “The Passionate Eye,” BBC’s “Storyville” and in Australia on SBS.
For six seasons, Arlene was host and segment producer of the award-winning television program GVTV. The show covers urban issues in the Greater Vancouver area, and is presently airing on Shaw Television and on the web: www.gvtv.ca
Arlene graduated with distinction from Concordia University’s Communication Studies program in Montreal.
